Fighting Buffalo

“Nintendo’s next gen console” is what IGN calls it, ahead of the rumored XBox3 and Playstation4 both of which will strive for major graphical enhancements and all around gaming horsepower Nintendo remains stuck in the late 90’s.

When Playstation Move and XBox Kinect came out they didn’t call it a new system. Consider at its core, the Wii is simply a Gamecube with different peripheral options it makes a next-gen(*) argument difficult.

If this Wii U is basically another fancy peripheral add on to a system with parts technically over a decade old now, I don’t see how it can save the company. I watched my friends playing the graphically retarded new Zelda game(**) and had to squint, trying to remember the last time I saw graphics this bad on a Sony or Microsoft release, it wasn’t on the current console generation that’s for sure.

As things like the XBLA and PSN make the quirky games that the Wii is known for better, by incorporating their motion controls and an accessible intuitive multiplayer environment hooked to an established base. I see a day coming when the only thing we will need from Nintendo is nostalgia — because brother — I already bought everything the Wii U is promising under the hood, it was called a Gamecube and I bought it in 2001

(**) And what about the audio? On the Gamecube I could handle the lack of dialogue, the disks were small, but think about how much extra space there is on a DVD, Are you telling me they couldn’t have hired some voice actors to read a couple hours of mp3s to pull me out of the world of mumbling elves?
